concept sketches: punky lolita

okay so i decided to get to work on my 10 free sketches thingy since it’s been almost a year or some crap since i posted that on my DA XD!! here’s some preliminaries for holly’s punk ladeh. i’m not sure if the ref dollies she gave me are actually her or if it’s a char. i should pay more attention to things outside my own self *dies*

weapons of choice: staedtler mechanical pencils 0.5 and my lil’ mini (small) hardcover sketchbook.

i’m excited to get drawing this actually. i’m incorporating some gothic lolitaness into it since i’m not really too up on the whole punk scene XD! i love both styles though and think putting them together should be hot stuff heh. i wanna do it right NOW but i gotta go to bed for work. starting with turning last.fm OFF dammit haha.

experimental: acrylics and inks

so these are old too heh. from like 2007 XD! i’m not going to back post these mind ’cause they’ve never seen the light of day (at least i don’t think they have except the mermaid). so technically they’re new DX

weapons of choice: staedtler mechanical pencils 0.5, pigment liners (staedtler/sakuras), prismacolor and pantone tria markers *weeps for the loss of these*, turner acryl gouache (i remember being so lost at the campus art store when i first went for these *so not a painter*), illustration board bits for the mermaid.

okay yeah. was experimenting with traditional stuff here like i do from time to time. the mermaid was really a step in the deep end for me as i started by splashing the paints around for fun first, letting it dry, then drawing straight up over top with a micron pen. ’twas ace! that one in the kimono is so a fweeb girl. she kinda looks japanese pring style or something.

concept sketches: modern tribal

the preliminary stuff that started my modern tribal traditional thingy original work here

weapons of choice: staedtler mechanical pencil, pigment liners, gold leaf and matte medium to set it, winsor newton india ink in burnt sienna (that i spilled all down the spine of the sketchbook making it look uber hardcore and used and sketchy XD), mini metallic brads (those funny studs in the second one’s head wrap)

basically did this to test out how the gold leaf handled and if i could pull off the ink along with all the other business. the ink didn’t take but i’d definitely like to do some more traditional experimentation with it!

oh man did i fuck this thing up XD! i tried to upgrade but i had this prob on my server where it was not giving me permission to delete certain files! giving i’m trying to trim things down that didn’t go well with “delete happy” me and i tried deleting whole oekaki boards as well as my ispy blog all my old posts have died and passed on to interwebz heaven? meh. so here’s a fresh start.

old rorag stuff! well it’s from about fall/winter ‘08 maybe a bit from summer. oh and click on the images to get a description *is getting used to new wordpress* anyway yeah here…

concept series: chess set

okay just back posting some old stuff ’cause i’m bored and i want my blog to look fuller XD. stole this from my DA scraps…

Chess Queen: White

so this is supposed to be a set of chess pieces. i started colouring her but i’m so not feeling the direction i was going so i’m going to start again and attempt to actually finish one of my hairbrained scheme themes for once XD. this is the queen of the traditional black and white sets so this would be the cold frosty white piece queen and i have another idea for the black queen. pretty predictable really but it’s practice

pixel a la sketch: nouveau fae

stolen from DA scraps again. i’ve always had an obsession with faes, art nouveau, and more recently doing pixel dollish art from sketches so that’s what this is about. it’s actually quite far along but i’m having issues with the colours/garments etc. i would like to actually get to finishin’ mind.

if anyone actually sees this some c/c would be loved XD! i’m pretty sure the obi/sash thingy needs to be cinched a bit in the waist i tend to make sausage torsos XDD

figure study: some gals

did these way back in the day XD. they’re rubbish and they are done from referencing a fashion illustration book. it’s a really great book of my mom’s that talks about the industry, illustrating for the industry and is full of a gabillion full body and head shot photos categorized front, back, feet, face etc. it’s great but i don’t have that anymore. my life drawing class stuff is on like huge newsprint sketch books and i don’t think i have the cobbles to attempt snapping pics and uploading them here heh. new stuff shall come anyway!

onto the dumpage…

they kinda bug me ’cause they look like … young XD! other than that fun with charcoals!

anatomy: handses!

okay i was going to back post these exactly as they appear in my LJ by date and such to be a nerd but it’s better to just post two dumps rather than a bunch with like one sketch per post. beh. so here’s some hands…

most of these are me referencing my left hand. there are some that are obviously not my left hand which are referenced from the same fashion illo book as the figure studies before.
